In the fifth game of the World Chess Championship, India’s 18-year-old D Gukesh and China’s defending champion Ding Liren ended with a draw after 40 moves. Both players now have 2.5 points each. Gukesh, using the King’s pawn opening, aimed for an imbalanced position, but the game concluded in a balanced endgame with no progress in sight.
