The Kolkata Municipal Corporation mandates that all commercial establishments in the city display signboards in Bengali alongside other languages. The implementation deadline is set for February 21, 2025. This move came after Bengali’s recent designation as a classical language by the Centre. Past efforts to enforce similar regulations in 2007 did not succeed.
