Rebels seized control of Damascus on Sunday, forcing President Bashar al-Assad to flee. Jubilant crowds filled the streets, celebrating the end of Assad’s rule after 13 years of civil war. The rebel takeover followed similar victories in Homs and Hama, where statues of the Assad family were toppled. The Syrian Prime Minister expressed willingness to cooperate with a new leadership.
