Eight villagers suffocated to death in a well in Khandwa, MP, while attempting to rescue one another after one person fell in. Toxic gases from contamination in the well are suspected to have caused the deaths. The well, used only for idol immersions, turned deadly due to accumulated muck. Each victim’s family will receive Rs 4 lakh in compensation.
