The catalyst appears to be the arrest of Ekrem Imamoglu, Istanbul’s mayor and a potential opposition candidate in the upcoming Turkish presidential election. But some protesters say this is bigger than Imamoglu. Many voters are angry about persistently high inflation, the state of democracy, education and healthcare in Turkey.
