A top Russian general, Igor Kirillov, head of nuclear, biological, and chemical protection forces, was killed in a bomb blast outside his Moscow apartment. Ukraine’s security service claimed responsibility for the assassination, which followed accusations of Kirillov’s involvement in chemical weapons use in Ukraine. Russia vowed retribution, calling the act terrorism.
