With new govt, Canada to keep immigration caps, focus on talent, cut backlogs

Incoming Prime Minister Mark Carney is expected to maintain sustainable immigration levels, adhering to the 2025-2027 plan that caps temporary residents. The focus will be on transitioning temporary workers to permanent status and attracting global talent, particularly from the US, through a revitalized Global Skills Strategy Program. Efforts will also be made to recognize foreign credentials and boost Francophone immigration.
