Ukraine could develop a nuclear bomb if US President-elect Trump halts military aid to Kyiv, as per a Ukrainian govt internal memo. Kyiv could use plutonium to make a nuclear bomb in a few months, an analytical memo prepared for Ukrainian defence ministry said.It would be similar to the Fat Man bomb dropped on Nagasaki in 1945, the Ukrainian memo added. “Creating a simple atomic bomb, as the US did within the framework of the Manhattan Project, would not be a difficult task 80 years later,” the document reads. The report explains that Ukraine lacks time to build and launch large-scale uranium enrichment facilities amid war. As a result, Ukraine would have to rely on plutonium extracted from spent fuel rods removed from its nuclear reactors. The report states that the amount of plutonium available in Ukraine is sufficient to make hundreds of tactical warheads.
