Italy Takes Back 43 Migrants in 3rd Failed Attempt to Keep Them Out

Forty-three migrants from Egypt and Bangladesh who were detained in camps in Albania have returned to Italy after a Rome court ordered their transfer on 1 February. The migrants had been picked up in the Mediterranean and sent to Albania earlier in the week as part of Italy’s plan to process asylum seekers outside the EU. However, on 31 January, the court refused to approve their speedy expulsion, dealing another blow to Prime Minister Meloni’s far-right government.
