Japan has called off a key meeting with the United States. This decision followed a demand from Washington for Tokyo to significantly increase its defense spending. The US wanted Japan to raise its defense budget to 3.5 percent of GDP. An upcoming election in Japan also influenced the decision to postpone the security talks.
