Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav questioned the Uttar Pradesh government’s decision to introduce a new manual for appointing the director general of police (DGP), which mandates a minimum two-year tenure. Yadav suggested the move might be an attempt to consolidate power and questioned whether the chief minister himself would remain in office for the stipulated period.
